After rearranging my weekend schedule, I was able to participate in the Northwest Oregon Wildfire School at Camp Rilea. Every year, our county hosts a multi-agency, live fire, wildfire drill. This was my first year doing it and was looking forward to working with the other departments, the ODF crews, and the helicopters. However, due to rain, we couldn't even get a burn out completed on our safety zone Saturday. Yestereday was a total bust with thunder and lighting storms. Looking forward to next year, though.

If you can swing it, the COWS (Central Oregon Wildfire School) is one kick-butt wildfire experience. I attended the first one many years ago and learned quite a bit. Dunno if your agency can send a crew that far away, or even if they'll let a coast agency participate, but if it works, go for it!

I just put together a list of iphone/itouch apps for EMTs/Paramedics, could you share my post with your readers? If there's a app you use often in the field, let me know in the comments and I can add it to the list. Did you know apps can be written off on taxes?:) Might even be able to write off a iphone too if you can show that you only use it for work (for the apps!).
